The Xerox  Photocopier.

(In The Blind Watchmaker Richard Dawkins compares the coming into existence of the simplest form of life [before the alleged processes of evolution can begin] to the spontaneous self-generation of a Xerox machine.)

Some people actually believe that the Xerox Photocopier was designed. Is there any scientific proof of their theory I want to know? It is true that there are written records but I think they were all made up. I think the materials just formed themselves into a photocopier. Yes it is unlikely, but there are so many planets in the universe that it could well have happened on at least one. I wouldn't be surprised if there is one somewhere on an uninhabited planet somewhere.   It is true we don't understand everything yet but we will do one day without having to introduce the superstitious theory that it had something to do with engineers. It is just is an 'engineers of the gaps' theory. I am not going to believe in the existence of engineers until first I am shown something they actually do. Anyway are not engineers a variety of human and there is no agreement as to the origin of human beings? So saying something is the work of engineers explains nothing. What was their origin or have they always existed? Why not say the Xerox machine has always existed and be done with it?
