Trinity. 9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. Two dimensional world - flat surface: No ups or downs. Two or more squares are two separate things. When they are joined no longer squares.
Three dimensional world (with ups and downs): Six squares make one cube. Joined in a way that could not be imagined in a world on the flat. For us the 3 dimensional world is more real.
There is a yet a higher level than the one we live in. Twins on the far side of the world - know when there is a crisis. EPR: Things are combined in ways that could not be imagined in the simpler world. God lives in a highest dimension there is.
In our 3 dimensional world - the one we are used to - 3 persons are 3 separate persons.
In God's higher dimension - 3 Persons are together as One in a way we cannot imagine in our limited 3 dimensions. ================================= Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. (Deut 6:4). Yet the word for God is a plural word.
One God yet: `Let us make man in our image.' · Related in love to one another. · Every evil act brings us all down · Confession · Every good act lifts us all up. · John Donne: "Never send to know for whom the bell tolls - it tolls for Thee." · Adam brings us all down. · Christ lifts us up. · Baptism of Christ. · John reluctant - why? · Fulfil all righteousness. · High Priest. · As He came out of water - praying. · This is my beloved Son. · Holy Spirit came upon Him. · Trinity. · (Sinless Son of God Identifying Himself with sinners.) · Marriage · Bridgroom · Bride. · Bride of Christ. · We identify ourselves with Him. · Our Baptism. Baptise in name (Singular) of Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Before then - another Baptism. I have a baptism to be baptized with, and how great is my distress until it is accomplished! (Luke 12:50)
Cross. 2 Cor 5: 14 For the love of Christ controls us, because we have concluded this: that one has died for all, therefore all have died; 15 and he died for all, that those who live might no longer live for themselves but for him who for their sake died and was raised. · We were there when · And Can it Be . · Can't imagine - but nevertheless real. ============================= When we pray for one another: - really closer to them than we can imagine in our ordinary world of 3 dimensions.
We can all pray so: Lets bring it down to our ordinary level. Matt 6: 6 But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.
You have closed the door of your room and are praying.
1. Praying to God - above and beyond you. `Our Father who art in heaven.' Can't imagine where heaven is. This way or that way ? Glimpses into heaven.
Prayers still reach Him. He is the goal of your prayers.
2. But who is prompting you to pray? Also God. Rom 8: 26 Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. John 7:38 Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water. Something - Someone - in us prompting us to pour out our hearts in prayer.
3. Someone standing beside you - taking your prayers to God - also God. Luke 22:32 I have prayed for you that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned again, strengthen your brothers. Are you worried that your faith is failing? Christ prays for you. High Priest and Advocate.
He knows that life on earth can be very very hard. The root of the problem is that we are all sinners. Not one of us deserves ...
All of us need forgiveness. Luke 23:34 Jesus prayed: "Father, forgive them,
Was it just a few He was praying for? No: All who were there! You and me! We were there! Is 53:12 yet he bore the sin of many, and makes intercession for the transgressors. But does the `many' mean everyone including me? 1 Tim 2:3-6 This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, 4 who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. 5 For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man [1] Christ Jesus, 6 who gave himself as a ransom for all, which is the testimony given at the proper time.
John 14: 6 Jesus said to him, I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
Christ is the bridge between heaven and earth. So: 1. God is the thing (the Person) to whom you pray - the goal you are trying to reach.
2 God is also the thing (the Person) inside you which is pushing you on - the motive power.
3. God is also the road or bridge along which you are being pushed to that goal.
So the threefold life of God is actually there in that ordinary bedroom where an ordinary man, woman or child - like you and me is kneeling and praying.
It is for you and me to say `Yes' to that. =================================================== Howard Taylor welcomes questions and comments (critical or not). 'Faith and the Modern World' Home Page.
