Charles Darwin. This is the year when many will be celebrating the birth of Charles Darwin and the writing of his most famous book: The Origin of Species. I don't have any religious objections to the modern theory of neo-Dawinism. If true it does not prove atheism (We have no idea where the matter and the energy of the Universe came from to make the stars. Saying they came from the 'Big Bang' does not solve any mystery.) However Darwin's theory does make life more comfortable for the atheist - hence the passion with which it is held. In my view, Darwin's theory, in his day, was not all that bad, but it has been made untenable by modern discoveries about the nature of life in its simplest form. Many scientists continue to hold to it, not because they have examined the evidence, but because all scientists believe it - or so they are told. Some have looked at the evidence but are afraid of raising doubts because they are afraid of losing funding or even their jobs - so passionately is it held that may be the cost. To read my assessment of the theory go to my Power Point presentation, or my reaction to Richard Dawkins' book 'The Blind Watchmaker' or you perhaps may be interested in my article on Intelligent Design.
