Corruption among politicians of all parties.

Many people are complaining that Politicians of all parties are claiming money that a loose interpretation of the rules allows. So tens of thousands of pounds in tax payers money has gone into making some politicians rich. They have stretched the rules to the limit and so they have been able to claim for ridiculous projects.

No doubt many of these complaints are justified. The corruption of some people is a symptom of the greed so prevalent in our society today. There is a shortage of trust because righteousness cannot, anymore, be assumed. So we need more rules. How many rules would be needed if there were no trust? The answer is an infinite number! That is impossible. Therefore a society without any trust cannot survive. Trust is an aspect of faith - but not any faith. Faith in a righteous God whose righteousness bears some resemblance to our own sense of right and wrong is necessary. Unless there is an underlying source of our sense of righteousness, that is to say we believe human life on earth really is valuable and not just a matter of opinion, trust cannot last. That is why Faith is necessary if trust is to survive. And also, unless God's righteousness has some relationship to our sense of right and wrong some words would have no meaning.

I imagine that many of those who are complaining about corrupt politicians would have done the same had they the chance.

Those who have power are tempted to misuse the power for their own ends. So what system maximises power? It is a system that combines political power with economic power. That is what the Left have always believed in. Of course the Free Enterprise way of trading tempts people to be corrupt but how much stronger will this temptation be when political power is linked to economic power as it is in State controlled economies. The evidence for this is found all over the world.
